Information:

Closer (2002, Chronicle books) is Carucci’s first body of work. It is a deeply personal and evocative photographic series that explores the complexities of intimacy, identity, and familial bonds. Through a series of intimate portraits and candid moments, Carucci photographs her relationships with her parents, grandparents, brother, her boyfriend, and herself, capturing both the beauty and vulnerability inherent in human connections, and finding the universal in the microcosm that exists within family lives.

“The camera is, in fact, often less biased than my eyes. And since it preserves something from life – It would not otherwise be valuable for me – it is also a record. When I have something in a photograph, I feel like it is safe from time, I feel like I can also part with it. It gives me the illusion of having the actual past for safekeeping.” (From Carucci’s text in Closer)
